5 Healthy Snacks for a Super Bowl Party

Super Bowl Sunday is this weekend! It’s Super Bowl 50 this year; which means, even people who do not watch the Super Bowl, will likely watch it. We bet the advertisements and the half time show–many viewers’ favorite Superbowl elements–will be insane! The best way to celebrate this major event is by throwing a Super Bowl party that everyone will remember. Friends, beer, and lots of snacks– it doesn’t get better than that!

Super Bowl snacks are generally fried, fatty and have a lot of calories. You will definitely have to include some of the Super Bowl snack classics in your party; however, being the healthy person I am, I’m going to throw in healthy and light snack ideas. Healthy, light, and low-calorie Super Bowl snacks may sound a bit strange, nonetheless, they do exist and they are delicious!

Here are five of my favorite healthy Super Bowl snacks:

1. Baked Sweet Potato Skins

  • Cut the potatoes in half, face up.
  • Put them in the oven for about 30-45 min.
  • Once they are tender, sprinkle some salt and black pepper.
  • Add a spoon of low-fat sour cream on top.
  • Garnish with green onion.

 2. Deviled Quail Eggs

  • Boil the eggs for about 4 minutes.
  • De-shell, cut in half, and separate the yolks from the whites; put it in a bowl.
  • Mash the yolk using a fork.
  • Add mayonnaise, mustard, vinegar, salt and pepper.
  • Evenly disperse the yolk mixture into the egg whites.
  • Top it off with a bit of caviar.

3. Baked Buffalo Wings

Wings and American football go hand-in-hand; however, we all know the amount of calories and fat that come from deep frying. Thus, I prefer baking them in the oven, for a healthier version.

  • Marinate the wings for 1-2 hours in the fridge with the sauce of your choice. I would recommend mixing BBQ sauce with hot sauce.
  • Place wings on a baking sheet and preheat the oven.
  • Bake until the chicken is no longer pink in the center, and crispy on the outside, about 45 minutes at 400°F (204°C). Turn wings over halfway during cooking so they cook evenly.

4. Hummus and Avocado Dip

Super Bowl snacks

  • In a food processor, puree avocado, chickpeas, Tahini sauce, lemon juice, and salt.
  • Top with olive oil and dash of paprika.
  • Chop pita bread into big cubes, toss them with a bit of olive oil and bake them in the oven. You can also replace the pita bread with cucumber or celery.

This dip will ensure that you have your fiber, protein and healthy fat for the day!

5. Zucchini Fries

Substitute french fries with healthy, light and crunchy zucchini fries.

  • Cut zucchini to the desired thickness.
  • Beat one egg.
  • Dip the cut zucchini in the egg mixture.
  • Dip again in all-purpose flour until completely covered
  • Fry the zucchini– don’t leave it for too long or it will burn!
