Best Vegan Desserts: Fluffy Moist Vegan Chocolate Delight

“No thank you, I am vegan!” That was my friend’s reaction when I offered her a piece of cheesecake I made myself. Similar to vegetarians, vegans do not eat meat, poultry or fish; they eliminate all dairy products and egg from their diets and honey in some cases. This made me wonder, what do vegans have for dessert when most desserts have eggs and/or dairy in them? I found the answer and decided to share the vegan chocolate dessert recipe with you all.

There is a huge misconception among people that vegan food is tasteless and that vegan desserts do not even exist, because most of the desserts that we know and love include milk, butter and eggs in them. Well, we are wrong!

Vegans do enjoy their desserts and there are many vegan substitutes for baking.

Vegan Chocolate Dessert

For example:

• Eggs in baking can be replaced by Ener-G Egg Replacer or a combination of warm water and baking soda
• Eggs in quiches and custards can be replaced by puréed soft tofu
• Soy, almond, coconut and rice milk can replace regular milk and they are light and less fatty!
• Coconut or almond oil are great replacements for regular butter

The vegan community is growing worldwide and in the Middle East as well; new vegan restaurants are popping up and more restaurants are adding vegan options to their menus. However, it seems that restaurants are focusing on adding vegan dishes to their menus not dessert; most restaurants I have been to which have added vegan dishes haven’t added vegan desserts…yet. There are tons of vegan dessert recipes out there. Coupled with the vegan substitutes, baking is much easier. Finding the right recipe however, can be a challenge!

I was very skeptical at the beginning. I mean, I love chocolate mousse, brownies and chocolate fudge. All of those mouth-watering desserts have butter, milk and also eggs in them! How can I find the perfect vegan chocolate cake?

After trying many of those vegan desserts recipes, I found the perfect vegan chocolate cake and it tastes like heaven!

Vegan Chocolate Cake

Ingredients
  1. 1 1/2 cups (180 g) all-pupose flour
  2. 1 cup (200 g) white sugar
  3. 1/4 cup (30 g) cocoa powder
  4. 1 teaspoon baking soda
  5. 1/2 teaspoon salt
  6. 1 1/3 cups (320 mL) vegetable oil
  7. 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  8. 1 teaspoon distilled white vinegar
  9. 1 cup (240 mL) water
Topping (optional)
  1. Vegan Chocolate
  2. Soy Milk
  3. Oil (coconut or vegetable)
Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Lightly grease one 9x5 inch loaf pan.
  3. Sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Add the oil, vanilla, vinegar and water. Mix together until smooth.
  5. Pour into prepared pan and bake at 350 F (175 C) for 45 minutes.
  6. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
Topping
  1. Add 1 teaspoon of oil in saucepan
  2. Melt the chocolate
  3. Keep adding milk until you get a good consistency
  4. Spread the mixture on top of the cake when cooled down
Notes
  1. Add strawberries on top for more deliciousness!
