Slow-Cooked Hungarian Beef Goulash

Goulash is in between a soup and a stew. Unlike some stews, Goulash is not overly packed full of beef and vegetables, it is a little more brothy. However, through the slow cooking process, the broth becomes thicker like a rich sauce. This is what makes beef goulash the perfect addition to rice or as a gravy for potatoes.

To achieve an authentic Hungarian goulash dish you cannot be shy with your seasoning and in particularly with your use of paprika. Hungarians use very generous amounts of paprika when making their beef goulash so it is essential that you also do the same to get the right flavour.

As a quick cheat method, you can skip the process of browning the meat if you are in a rush. This will save you some time however, your beef might not be as flavoursome as when browned to lock in its flavour. Nevertheless, it will still be enjoyable. It also saves making an extra dish to wash up.
