When Food Becomes Art

ChefXChange had the pleasure to partake in the Opening Ceremony of Fall/Winter Fashion Week 16/17 at City Centre in Beirut and work with internationally renowned food artist Tom Wolfe. Hailed by Dom Perignon as one of the top 3 food artists in the world, Wolfe creates participatory artwork that is a hybrid of performance art, installation, sculpture, and food.

This event featured London-based designers PA5H and Velsvoir. Kudos to our partners Tarte Aux Poires for hosting and organizing such a unique event!

For the rest of the week, the runway was filled with models and new designs!

The Opening Ceremony had many different elements. At the beginning, guests were greeted with champagne and were invited to take pictures in the front of what seemed like a typical London phone booth. They were then asked to be seated for the fashion show.

The show kicked off with PA5H, a London-based designer that designs women clothes. Following PA5H was Velsvoir, which took over the runway to show their men’s new accessories collection.

The big surprise was food artist and chef Tom Wolfe trays that decorated both male and female models with finger food. They took one last walk on the runway with food on trays either on their head piece, shoulder piece, or as a purse. Each model mingled with the guests after finishing the catwalk. Guests were encouraged to partake in Tom Wolfe’s work, breaking the traditional boundaries of art institutions. Everyone enjoyed the display of the finger food, eating, and engaging with the models.

The last part of the fashion show was the “Inside The Cake” installation! Inviting guests inside the installation to have a taste and trigger their positive scent memories with vanilla cupcakes and icing.
